Beach BBQ

Created by: doglovers

Hey guys,

OK we are returning to the resort for our third time and have never done the beach BBQ. I have read that the food isn't that great, but the atmosphere is nice. Has anyone been recently and what were your thoughts on it?

Gracias!

Thanks Anne. I will ask the front desk or butler if we can just go after our dinner and have a drink there...we would just bring our bubba mugs.

Thanks!

I pretty much agree with Loke. It is a fun thing to try once for the atmosphere and change of pace. The food was BBQ food like steak, hotdogs, spareribs, salads, corn on the cob. You do have to stand in line to get your food. The waiters bring drinks around. The music and lights add to the fun atmosphere. One night when we went (April, I think) it was very cool so bring a sweater. We returned to the buffet for desert as we were chilly. There are two seatings and you do have to reserve. I beleive you may be able to get over to the bar seating area just to listen to the music but I would bring drinks as the bartenders are busy serving the BBQ guests.

Good to know! There are four of us for most every meal, except for at least one that will be just the two of us at Portofino. I know that they can seat you with other people if there are only two of you.

You can walk down there but they have a waiter standing there to look at your reservation slip before you are seated. I am not sure if they let you past if you only wanted to get a drink at their bar. You can see most of the set up from the perimeter. You can always go & eat & then if still hungry, grab something from the buffet. I think the BBQ is more fun if you are with others but 2 would be fine too. You can hear the ocean & the atmosphere is worth it. I think we just waited too long & the meat got overcooked. they work so hard at this buffet that I feel bad even saying that & the staff sure seem to enjoy being outside & working. the Marachi band in the background was fun too.

Thanks for responding Louise. Can just walk down there with a drink and see what it's like? Do you think they would allow that?

We have been to the BBQ a couple of times the last being in Feb. The whole wedding group went together which was very nice the day after the wedding. It was very windy that night & we sat at tables closest to the water so got the full blast but it really was not cold. (Not a cold Alberta wind anyway). We thought they would tell us when it was our turn to go up to the buffet so we sat a long time. As a result we found the meat to be quite overcooked but it was sort of our fault for not paying attention. Being in a large group, I think we were doing more visiting & forgetting to get our food. The Marachi band played & every attention to detail as usual. I think it must be a great deal fo work to set up the BBQ. It is up to you but it is fun to be outdoors & down by the water. It gets dark very early in Feb so April might be a better time as you will get some daylight. The raccoons came around begging when we were finished since we were close to the bushes where they hide out. They didn't come too close but wait for scraps to be tossed their way. It was fun to do something different but it is not a priority for our next visit.
