Sea Lice

Anne I seem to remember you talking about these pests once. I was wondering if anyone had a problem with sea lice (thimble jellyfish) & if so what was the treatment? Has anyfound found 'Sea Safe' in Canada? Shipping costs double the price when ordered off Amazon. I can't find the ingredients in Sea Safe either.

We were exposed to sea lice once in Playa (not at the Palladium). They are almost impossible to see (tiny black specs). (Microscopic larvae) They occur, the saying goes, from Mothers' Day to Fathers' day and are very random. We felt an intense itching in our bathing suits where they become trapped. At the time we did not know about these annoying critters. The impotant thing to do is get out of the water, go to your room, remove your bathing suit and shower immediately. Do not shower in your suit. Do not use the same suit unless it has been washed in very hot water and dried in a dryer. (I ended up throwing my suit away as I could feel itching even after washing it.) My daughter had the worst reaction, breaking out in hive like red spots. We used Benadryl and she was better in a couple of days.

There are products you can purchase like safe sea. I cannot say how effective they are and the presence of lice is so random I would't really worry too much if you're going to be there in May/June. If you come in contact with them you will probably feel itchy soon thereafter. Suggest packing some Benadryl and/or hydrocortisone just in case.
